Wind mill blades

LM Glasfiber blades - a summary
Progress is swift. Just 20 years ago, the largest wind turbines had blades with a diameter of 15 metres and were only capable of producing 50 kW of electricity. Today, the largest wind turbine in the world has a capacity of 5 MW and can produce enough electricity to supply 5,000 European households. With a rotor diameter of 126 metres, and a sweep the near-equivalent of two football pitches.

We've come a long way with the tools already at our disposal. However, we want to continue to make crucial improvements to blade performance.

Welcome to LM Glasfiber - Blades for the wind turbines of the future
LM Glasfiber conducts extensive R&D in close collaboration with both customers and leading research institutions. Our objective is to develop new technology that makes wind turbines more efficient and extends the service life of both the turbines and the blades.

LM Glasfiber's leading market position is the result of this intensive development work, combined with our global production, sales network and service organisation. Customers benefit from efficient delivery and quality service for new wind farms all over the world.

Our quality assurance system is certified by Det Norske Veritas in accordance with ISO 9001 requirements. For many years, we have worked with the Risø National Laboratory in Denmark and Germanischer Lloyd in Germany to ensure that our blades maintain the highest quality standards.

We are currently one of the world's largest producers of fibreglass-reinforced plastic - the result of more than half a century's work with advanced composite materials.

Reliable blades via quality assurance
LM Glasfiber employs a number of different check procedures both during production and prior to delivery of the blades to the customer.

Examples of our methods include:
- laser scanning of blade mould
- testing adhesive joints using infrared cameras and ultrasound
- testing blade geometry using 3D scanners
- four-point resistance measurement in lightning conductor system.
