The rotor blades are extremely important parts of a windmill. LM Glasfiber is the largest and most experienced supplier of blades for windmills all around the world. We have produced blades since the 1970s and has built up an extensive body of knowledge within the field of windmills and aerodynamics. LM Glasfiber has played a decisive part in the development of the largest windmill in the world by developing the largest blade ever produced to the customer REpower. The blade is more than 60 meters long and it was a major challenge in every respect. Our engineers really pushed the envelope for what is possible in blade production. It is extremely important to focus on the weight when dealing with such a large blade to reduce the stresses on the windmill during operation. Weight reductions influence the dimensioning of all other parts in the windmill, providing potential for significant savings.
The worst enemy for a windmill is lightning strikes. The windmill needs effective lightning protection to secure that both the blades and the other parts of the windmill are not severely damaged by the powerful energy surges in lightning. LM Glasfiber has designed lightning receptors that attract a lightning strike to specific points and lead it away to the conductive system in the blade. Protecting windmill blades against lightning is about attracting strikes, not avoiding them. Then it is possible to direct the flow of the lightning and ensure that the parts that are exposed to its effects can withstand the forces involved.
Welcome to LM Glasfiber - Blades for the wind turbines of the future
LM Glasfiber conducts extensive R&D in close collaboration with both customers and leading research institutions. Our objective is to develop new technology that makes wind turbines more efficient and extends the service life of both the turbines and the blades.

LM Glasfiber's leading market position is the result of this intensive development work, combined with our global production, sales network and service organisation. Customers benefit from efficient delivery and quality service for new wind farms all over the world.
Our quality assurance system is certified by Det Norske Veritas in accordance with ISO 9001 requirements. For many years, we have worked with the Risø National Laboratory in Denmark and Germanischer Lloyd in Germany to ensure that our blades maintain the highest quality standards.
We are currently one of the world's largest producers of fibreglass-reinforced plastic - the result of more than half a century's work with advanced composite materials.
Reliable blades via quality assurance
LM Glasfiber employs a number of different check procedures both during production and prior to delivery of the blades to the customer.
Examples of our methods include:
- laser scanning of blade mould
- testing adhesive joints using infrared cameras and ultrasound
- testing blade geometry using 3D scanners
- four-point resistance measurement in lightning conductor system.
