LM DrainReceptors are a new type of lightning receptor that combines the ability to intercept lightning with a design that makes it possible to drain condensation from the blade. [foto]
Condensation forms on the inner side of the blade as a result of temperature changes in the surrounding air. It is important to let this condensation drain out because the rotation of the blade causes water to collect at the tip, and this affects overall performance. In addition, blades that contain water run the risk of overheating in the event of a lightning strike. In extreme cases, this can even make the blade explode.
Drain holes were previously built into LM Glasfiber blades. However, data collected over many years revealed that these drain holes tended to attract lightning strikes. This risk was eliminated by combining lightning interception with the drainage of condensation. Mounted right at the tip, the LM DrainReceptor helps to protect the most exposed section of the blade.
LM DrainReceptors are designed to make them easy to replace if required.

Our blades have to be able to withstand at least 20 years of tough operation. That’s why we test everything so thoroughly, right from basic materials and design principles to finished blades. Non-destructive testing (NDT) is an important part of this.
