Vibration dampening

At certain wind speeds, stall-regulated blades sometimes experience problems with edgewise vibrations. When these occur, the blades are subjected to heavy loadings, and this reduces the service life of the blades.

In 2002, LM Glasfiber therefore developed an effective, highly durable way to deal with this problem – a U-shaped vibration dampener. This was the result of our many years of development work, providing key insights about the exact cause of these vibrations.

Most blades currently produced are pitch-regulated, and they are not affected by the same problems. However, LM Glasfiber has decided to continue working on this problem, in case pitch-regulated blades are affected in the future.

Unique blade design

Blades from LM Glasfiber are designed with a highly advanced structure that’s based on a simple yet effective concept – two glass fibre shells stiffened with two webs.

Full-scale testing on all blades

All our blade types undergo both
static and dynamic testing. We can
test blades up to 80 metres long
in our own test rig.
